Which are the highest paying software companies in India?

SHARE
Some of the companies which pay very well and which come to my mind are:
The Biggies (mainly for the role of software development) :
  • Google (CTC ~ 24 LPA)
  • Microsoft (CTC ~ 18-20 LPA)
  • Samsung (CTC ~ 18 LPA)
  • Visa
  • EBay
  • Amazon (CTC ~ 29 LPA)
  • Adobe (CTC ~ 20 LPA)
  • Cisco
  • Qualcomm (CTC ~ 16 LPA)
  • Intel
Investment Banks and Hedge Funds (for quant profile):
  • Goldman Sachs (CTC - 30 LPA)
  • World Quant (CTC - 41 LPA)
  • Tower Research
  • DE Shaw
Investment Banks (for other profiles):
  • Deutsche Bank (CTC ~ 19 LPA)
  • Credit Suisse (CTC ~ 14 LPA)
  • Morgan Stanley (CTC ~ 12 LPA)
  • JP Morgan Chase
  • Barclays
Some other companies paying very well (for software development roles):
  • Flipkart (CTC - 27 LPA)
  • Edge Verve (CTC - 23 LPA)
  • InMobi
  • Intuit
  • VMWare
The CTC given is a rough estimate as per what the companies are offering at IIT Kharagpur in December'15 placement season. The CTC might seem very high, but remember for software companies, take home salary is only about 50-60% of CTC (if not lower) while the rest includes one time signing bonus (which could be as much as 2-3 lakhs) and stock options which are vested over 5 years, which means they are paid to you in tranches over 5 years. For example, a simple structure could be like this:
  • 5% at the end of 1st year
  • 10% at the end of 2nd year
  • 15% at the end of 3rd year
  • 30% at the end of 4th year
  • 40% at the end of 5th year
So to get the 100% of your stock options, one will have to work for about 5 years in these companies (which is very rare for a newbie).
The investment banks and hedge funds which hire for quant roles offer about 60% as take home (or fixed) salary while the rest is made of one time signing bonus and performance related bonus which are given at the end of every year. Goldman Sachs gives 16-17 LPA as fixed salary, World quant gives a handsome 25 LPA as fixed salary while the rest is in bonuses for these companies.
But do remember, the workload at software companies is much much less than that at investment banks and hedge funds.

Product-based companies like:
  • Google
  • Adobe
  • Microsoft
  • Amazon
  • LinkedIn
  • Flipkart
  • Intuit
  • InMobi
  • DirectI
  • PayPal
  • eBay
  • Walmart Labs
  • SAP Labs
  • Juniper networks
  • Cisco
  • Zynga
  • VMware
  • Citrix
  • NetApp
  • Informatica
  • Twitter
  • Visa Inc
  • Akamai
And among investment banks for software roles:
  • Goldman Sachs
  • Deutsche Bank
  • Morgan Stanley
  • JP Morgan & Chase
  • Credit Suisse
Some VLSI firms paying well, for software roles:
  • Nvidia
  • Qualcomm
  • Synopsys
  • Texas Instruments
  • Mentor Graphics
  • ARM
  • Intel
  • Cadence
  • Broadcom
There are a few startups, which are paying very well, like:
  • Hortonworks
  • Komli Media
  • Vizury
  • CodeNation
  • Qubole
  • BankBazaar
  • Quikr
  • EdgeVerve
  • Media iQ Digital
  • Practo Technologies
This is just a list, and doesn’t necessarily reflect any particular ranking/ordering in terms of average pay.
